5★STAR GP OVERVIEW

This weekend, STARDOM's annual big midsummer league tournament, the 5★STAR Grand Prix begins with 32 competitors in participation. The most participants of any 5★STAR tournaments before with a more varied mix of talent, but feeling a little down in terms of bigger names due to injuries (Maika, Syuri, etc.), company exits (Mayu Iwatani, Tam Nakano, etc.), and other people who just decided to skip (Hazuki, Koguma, Saki Kashima, etc.). The tournament uses a round-robin format similar to NJPW's G1 Climax or AEW's Continental Classic. All 32 participants are grouped into four blocks of 8 where each wrestlers have to fight everyone in their respective block. In the case of this year, each person gets to compete in 7 matches in the blocks and get 1 rest day. This block period starts from July 27 (opening day) until August 17.

RULES

After the group stage, the tournament progresses into the final knockout stage which will begin in Korakuen Hall on August 20. The top person in each block will advance straight into the semi-finals, while the wrestlers who ended up in 2nd and 3rd place earn a spot in the quarter-finals. The way the quarter-finals work for both RED STARS and BLUE STARS is that the 2nd place person in the B Block will face the 3rd place person in the A block and vice-versa. Winners of the quarter-finals matches then advance into the semi-finals on the same day. The finalists will then clash for the crown 3 days later on August 23 in Ōta Ward.

Below is a map I made in Google Maps with all the venues marked.

HOW TO WATCH

The opening day and the grand final will be on PPV, while the shows in between are going to be available on Stardom World

Day 1 will be livestreamed on July 27 (4PM JST, Match 0 starts at 3:35PM JST) as a PPV. The archived PPV stream will be available for viewing until August 1 (11:59PM JST). It will then be available for streaming on Stardom World shortly after that period. My personal advice for anyone who is not subbed to Stardom World, but are interested in doing so now to watch this tournament is to pay on the start of the month. This is because they always charge at the start of the month. You can check Stardom World's schedule page for the distribution of the other shows and the official 5★STAR page for all other info.

Day 1 PPV Links (4620 JP Yen):

Every show onwards except for the final day will be streamed on Stardom World. Day 2 in Morioka will be live on July 30 at 7PM JST.

In terms of later updates of the tournament, I might do a post on here when we reach the half-way point or do one at the knockout stage, but I'm not very sure yet. I will be posting on Bluesky during each day so follow me on there.

BLOCKS

Here's a video overview of all participants in the four blocks made by STARDOM. I've written some of the intentions of each wrestler involved in the tournament inside their own schedule based on their comments from the press conference and other words they've expressed online through social media or interviews.

    • Sareee who is currently one of the biggest freelancers in Japanese wrestling recently dethroned Syuri off the IWGP Women's title. She has now entered the 5★STAR GP for the first time, but a little disappointed with the names in her block except for Momo Watanabe. As a result, the Sun God feels the need to light the fire into the whole tournament and make this year's 5★STAR GP the hottest of them all while continuing to display what "real wrestling" is.

OPENING DAY MATCH CARD

OTHER STARDOM NEWS

Syuri Takes A Break

After her match on June 29, Syuri announced that she's taking a break from STARDOM to recover from injuries and even do some training overseas. She had her last match before going away on July 6 against her student, Ranna Yagami and took the win. She's thankful for her career as a wreslter which is about to reach its 17th anniversary this year, for being in STARDOM, for God's Eye, and all the fans who have supported her and promises to come back as a Super Saiyan.

She just had surgery on her elbow which went well.

OUTSIDE STARDOM

Sareee-ISM

The strong duo of Sareee & Takumi Iroha known as Spark Rush defeated Saya Kamitani & Natsuko Tora in the main event of Sareee-ISM Chapter VIII. H.A.T.E. then ambushed Spark Rush. Chi Chi and Miku Kanae came in to try help break off the chaos. Chi Chi took shots at Kamitani for being all cutesy on TV and not having any courage to be hated. This then made the match trios tag match between H.A.T.E. and the trio of Sareee, Chi Chi and Miku Kanae on the 24th in Korakuen Hall.

The PPV for this show already expired and the main event is still not on Sareee's YouTube channel nor on STARDOM World, so you can watch it here for now.

All Elite Wrestling

On July 12 in Texas, Syuri made her AEW debut as a participant in the Women's Casino Gauntlet match to decide the next challenger for the AEW Womens' World Championship.

SENDAI GIRLS

SENDAI GIRLS held their first Korakuen Hall show since the retirement of Meiko Satomura on July 19 (replay on WRESTLE UNIVERSE).

Manami defeated Sayaka Kurara in a singles match.

Aya Sakura successfully defended the SENDAI GIRLS World Junior Title against YUNA for the second time (she previously beat YUNA back in June for her 1st defense). After the match, Aya Sakura seemed to have teased another match between them if YUNA does good against other rookies in STARDOM. Aya also thanked SENDAI GIRLS World champion Chihiro Hashimoto for recently organizing the joint rookie wrestling practice group that was built to improve the skills of juniors for a better future.

In the semi-main, Hazuki defeated the "Hardcore Queen" DASH Chisako in a chaotic hardcore match. But it doesn't end here.

Hazuki wants to do it again, but in a hardcore tag match for "SENJO THE BIGGGEST" which will take place in Xebio Arena Sendai on August 24 (live on WRESTLE UNIVERSE too). Hazuki will team up with Risa Sera against DASH Chisako & Aja Kong.

Starlight Kid & Natsupoi have also been booked for that show where they will team up against Yurika Oka & Unagi Saaka.

IWGP Women's champion Sareee will also face off against Mika Iwata in a singles match.

Next week on August 3, Akira Kurogane will face off against YUNA.

Hazuki will also go against Chihiro Hashimoto in a singles match.

WAVE

Ranna Yagami made it in the finals of this year's CATCH THE WAVE tournament which was a three way play-off against Kohaku and Haruka Umesaki, but fell short and ended up as a runner-up.

Hazuki who also participated in the tournament received the Technique Prize.

Kohaku who won the final, will face off against Regina Di Wave champion Saya Kamitani on August 10 in Korakuen Hall for Pro Wrestling WAVE's 18th anniversary show. You can find more information about this event on WAVE's official site.

OZ ACADEMY

Saori Anou will defend the OZ Academy Openweight Title in a three-way bout against Kakeru and Mayumi Ozaki on August 17 in Korakuen Hall.

Hazuki is also set to face off against AKINO whom she already faced when her and Koguma were defending the OZ Tag Team titles for the first time back in February.

You can check the other matches on their page and news for the live distribution of this show.

Jaguar Yokota 49th Anniversary

Jaguar Yokota will be having her 49th anniversary show on July 29 with support from OZ Academy. A special trios match has been booked involving Saya Kamitani teaming up with Jaguar Yokota & Mayumi Ozaki against Starlight Kid, Saori Anou, and Hikaru Shida.

You can find more info about this show from OZ Academy's website.

Yumiko Hotta's 40th Year

On August 15 in Korakuen Hall, Yumiko Hotta will be having her 40th debut anniversary show called "Legendary Evidence" which features a 1 day tag team tournament. The teams consist of legends and talent of the current generation that were decided via a random draw.

Teams:

There's also a special tag match between the team of Tomoko Watanabe, Dump Matsumoto, Jaguar Yokota versus the trio of Mima Shimoda, Kaoru Ito, and Shin Sakura Hirota.

1 Day Tag Team tournament bracket for Yumiko Hotta's 40th anniversary show and the match graphic for the special tag match

Not sure if there's going to be a live stream or a VOD in distribution for this show yet. You can find more info about this on Yumiko Hotta's social.

Actwres girl'Z

Natsupoi & Saori Anou return to Actwres girl'Z for a special tag match against Natsuki & Yukina Uehara. I'm not sure if this show will be live streamed, so I'll just link their streaming service and their official website.

Azure Revolution Returns

Saori Anou and HANAKO took part in the Azure Battle Royale match on the Azure Revolution Returns ran by Risa Sera & Maya Yukihi. I've embedded the digest below, but the full match is available on the YouTube channel's membership along with the other matches from the show.

JTO

Azusa Inaba dethroned Tomoka Inaba off the QUEEN OF JTO Title on July 11 in Korakuen Hall to become a double champion. After the match, Azusa nominated Sayaka Kurara to challenge for her JTO Girls title. Kiyoka Kotatsu confronted Azusa for a match on August 11 for the Queen of JTO Title. JTO doesn't really live stream these shows, so just hope these matches drop sometime in their YouTube channel a few months from now (it really does take that long).
